This video looks at the counter-intuitive weirdness of navigating two "simple" space manoeuvres, and was inspired by this blog post by Avi: https://smorgasb.org/orbital-speed-paradox/

"I was speeding to slow down officer"
I'm just sitting here thinking "Ah yes, I see someone is playing KSP"
Veterans of Kerbal Space Program will be vindicated by the video and the knowledge we amassed over years of planning transfers and docking with objects.
1% talking about the actual video 99% talking about ksp
If you play enough KSP none of that feels like a paradox
You have just inspired me to play kerbal space program again...
you fool I already knew this via the countless kerbals lost in the name of science
Ahhh, those Kerbal memories
you can hear orbital mechanics explained to you, but you will never truly understand it until you learn it with your body in Kerbal Space Program.
Me as a seasoned KSP player: "Ah yes, finally some physics I understand"
I bet the most ridiculous thing we'll talk about soon is the amount of energy it takes to fall into the Sun.
My favorite counterintuitive orbital fact is that a gas cloud (which is gravitationally bound, and therefore a huge amount of particles more or less in orbit around one another) heats up as you remove energy from it. When a star forms inside one and literally starts blasting the cloud with enormous amounts of energy, it cools down. It's basically the "higher orbit means lower speed" thing, but for a LOT of particles at the same time.
I think we really need distinct words for logical paradoxes and "paradoxes" that are just unintuitive results. Every time the latter is referred to like the former like this I feel immense pain
I would have needed this video when I started KSP...
Kerbal Space Program did wonders for helping me understand how difficult space travel can be
Kerbal Space Program achieved a miracle. It took something that used to confound even graduate-level physics students and turned it into something that even a child would find not only intuitive but addictively fun.
For the first time i knew everything in a minutephysics video Thank you 3700 hours in ksp
1:19 You don't NEED to slow down, it's just way more fuel efficient to do so.
All of this becomes blatantly obvious if you play enough KSP.
