Before Rosalind Franklin can explore Mars, it has to get off its lander.
Engineers are rehearsing that first journey on Earth, using a full-size rover model and Mars-like terrain. The test recreates some of the challenges Rosalind Franklin will face on the Red Planet, from reduced gravity and a 20-degree incline to uneven ground and obstacles beneath its ramps.
In 2030, Rosalind Franklin will make this journey for real on Mars.

The resilience of this mission is genuinely remarkable — losing the 2022 launch window and the Kazachok landing platform, then rebuilding the whole plan around a US launch. If it touches down in 2030, Rosalind Franklin's drill will be the first ever to reach 2 meters below Mars' surface, below the UV-baked layer where any biosignatures could actually survive. That alone makes the long delay worth it.
Mate, I spent nearly half a century of my life cutting code, and sorting out software solutions to encountered or perceived difficulties, sometimes in RTOS environments. Anyone that has the knowledge, understanding, patience, and focus, to do stuff like this on kit like this has my complete admiration.
"The incredible adventures of the Rosalind Franklin Rover"
Looking good. Every time we send something to the red planet we find something groundbreaking. I can't wait untill this lands on mars. Who knows what discovery will be next?
I always find it fascinating when I receive a new video from ESA. It's so exciting to watch every step forward. Many thanks. 🌻
Can’t wait to see Rosalind Franklin finally roll across the Mars surface!
I came for the title and stayed for the quality.
Machines... are...Very-Futur
Even if it has delayed many times i know that will worth it
Close enough. Welcome back sojourner
An incredible step toward exploring Mars. Every test brings us closer to discovering the secrets of the Red Planet. Best wishes to the ESA team for this ambitious mission.
i hope it includes mosquito escort drones , for scouting
Awesome work
Fingers crossed that space doesn't contain rover-ending surprises
Look at it's cute little sandbox
I love the name.
congrats
Wann ist es denn endlich mal soweit? 🎉 Ich bin sehr gespannt und freue mich schon riesig auf einen eigenen, europäischen Marsrover!! 🤩
I hope to work as an space mining engineer and design technologies to improve mining operations on extraterrestrial places, watching these improvements motivate me so much. Thanks ESA ❤.
