For some, it starts with a childhood fascination. For others, it’s the thrill of exploring the unknown. Our Hera engineers tell us what keeps them fascinated by these cosmic neighbours.
In November, Hera will finally reach the Didymos asteroid system to investigate the aftermath of NASA’s DART mission, which intentionally impacted Didymos’ moon, Dimorphos, in 2022 to test whether humanity could deflect an asteroid threatening Earth.
While the first close-up images of Didymos are expected earlier in the month, 25 November marks a particularly special moment: the first close-up look at Dimorphos.
After years of preparing for this moment, even Ian and Ingo can’t wait to discover what’s waiting out there. How do you think it will look like? 👀

Once again it becomes clear: great goals can only be achieved through enthusiasm for a cause, collaboration with like-minded people, and also by listening to and reflecting upon the opinions of others. ESA, thank you for this little interview. ✨️🌻🫶
