Unstoppable demand for AI is leading to a capacity crunch on factory lines at the world's leading chip manufacturer, Taiwan Semiconductor. And it could put a chokehold on AI's ability to scale. Analysts tell CNBC that Nvidia, Apple, Broadcom, AMD and others are locked in an “extremely fierce” competition to get their GPUs, CPUs and custom AI chips made at TSMC. Capacity can’t come online fast enough, despite TSMC’s rush to build new fabs in Taiwan, Japan and Arizona, where has expanded investment to $265 billion. The strain has made one man at TSMC “the most popular person on the planet,” as chip start-ups and big name CEOs visit Taiwan to ask him for wafer allocation. It’s also created a rich opportunity for Intel, as customers look to the long-struggling foundry arm of the U.S. chip manufacturer for a second source.

Why There’s An ‘Extremely Fierce’ Battle For TSMC's Limited Chip Manufacturing Capacity
My belly has an unlimited capacity for vanilla wafers.
Limited capacity at TSMC might actually save the whole AI industry to delay its bubble burst
That was a FABulous report!
Reserving production time/space has two functions 1: you make your product 2: it removes production from your competitors
The video being exactly 1337 long feels intentional.
Very exciting times for the semiconductor industry, that's for sure.
Thankssss
“$100b investment in Arizona” and I’m sure will probably pay zero taxes.
I'm excited for what they do at CXMT to balance the market, at least in terms of memory, Also, the audio is unbalanced during the in the interview. Volume normalization would be nice.
They need to build more fabs at the Arizona complex
so will this decrease ram prices and NVME SSD?
We went from SK Hynix needing more investment to TSMC
The scramble for advanced packaging and wafer allocation at TSMC is getting wild. Balancing multi-billion-dollar supply chains for AI accelerators and custom silicon is the ultimate engineering bottleneck right now. Great industry breakdown!

People are paying way more attention on this little island. You don't need nano chips on most of the appliances in your home.
Can't really argue with what you did say. What you didn't say covers a lot of ground. Every single input pipeline from raw wafers to chemicals to EUV machines to people is stretched to about the same breaking point, and the US' recent moves that make bringing in people from elsewhere with the necessary skills will only exacerbate that particular shortage.
