Her name is Maryam. Remember it 🕯️
Three-year-old Maryam Ghanem watched her mother, Reem, burn to death after an Israeli strike hit their Gaza City home on Wednesday, a year into a so-called ceasefire. Her father was killed earlier in the war. She is now an orphan.
This same week, Australian politicians and media condemned us for comparing these scenes to Nazi atrocities. Yet in tents, in schools, in hospitals and in cars fleeing south, Palestinians have been burned alive again and again. And on Maryam, they have said nothing.
She survived, carried from the flames by a Palestinian journalist. Her story will outlive their silence.
