Maria Corina Machado is back in Venezuela. Thousands of supporters flooded the streets of Caracas to welcome the Nobel Peace Prize winner home after months in exile. This could be a defining moment for Venezuela's most influential opposition leader, but can she turn public support into real political change? DW's Marianna Evenstein speaks to Christopher Sabatini, Director of the Latin America Program at the Chatham House think tank about the future of Venezuelan democracy, elections, and the battle for influence shaping the country.

Rubio isn’t a supporter of freedom at home
Machado is an expert in organizing elections. It is not complicated to celebrate an election, we only need political will. No more game nor excuses.
She is a survivor. I expect she'll do well. Good timing as MAGA is crumbling.
She gave Trump her Nobel medal in order to persuade him to continue his efforts. It is understandable, but she is not willing to surrender our need to return to the law and Democracy.
I always knew she would make it back home. The corner stone of her leadership: she is loyal to us the Venezuelan people. She is an honest, skillful, astute and hard working politician.
It really depends on what side of the bed Trump wakes up on. His administration is calling the shots over there. Delcy is his puppet. And Trump has shown he cares about the oil, not the people. He will throw anyone under the bus. We can only hope the midterms weaken his standing in the US and even his party so that someone grows a spine and pushes back. But I'm skeptical.
She is disgustingly desperate for power, her failed pathetic attempt to bribe Trump in order to make her president with her Nobel peace prize proves it.
She was a 4 % opposition pro trump netanyahu
Venezuela has a constitution that is not being followed. Delcy and her brother are in power illegally. Dinorah is also illegal. Two years ago Venezuelans voted. Why isn't the results being respected by the whole world. Venezuelans are experts in elections. Delays are a tactic so fishy agreements can be signed. Those agreements do not comply with the constitution and will be declared null and void.
that was "extracted".... he meant was illegally kidnapped?
She is not the opposition leader; she is the legitimate president of Venezuela. Let's get the narrative right, DW! She won the primaries and had to get a substitute because the criminals wouldn't let her run because they knew and know that it was going to be a landslide...
I lost any and all respect for that lady after she gave Trump her Nobel Prize. Unbelievable that she still has followers. She’s done nothing for Venezuela but to promote her own self image and interest. No integrity at all
The Joker is back
So if she comes back under Maduro administration, is that not saying that all along the earlier election has been legitimate?😊😊 So what is she waiting for? Get the Freedom Force to come in and "liberate" Venezulea, install an "interim" gov and have all pro-Maduro politicians removed from office! 😁😁
