At least 68 people were killed when a Spanish high-speed train collided with a stationary train on October 28, marking Spain’s second deadly rail crash this year and Europe’s deadliest since 2013. Rescuers searched mangled carriages for more victims as ambulances, funeral vans and helicopters gathered at the scene in rural Castilla-La Mancha. Twisted metal and wreckage lay scattered down an embankment, where at least three carriages had fallen from an elevated stretch of track.
