*As Over 600 Innovators, enterprise leaders grace Innovate Africa
By Prince Osuagwu, Hi-Tech Editor
Africa’s technology conversation is shifting from simply producing digital talent to building the products, businesses and innovation systems capable of solving the continent’s most pressing problems.
That was the central message as more than 600 product managers, founders, enterprise executives and technology leaders converged at the recently concluded Inspire Africa Conference, organised by Innovate Africa Foundation, IAF.
The gathering brought together players from across Africa’s technology, financial services, telecommunications, education and startup ecosystems, with a strong emphasis on one question: how can Africa build products that solve real problems, create sustainable businesses and deliver measurable economic value?
For IAF, the answer lies in developing a new generation of product leaders capable of taking ideas beyond the conference room and turning them into commercially viable solutions.
The Foundation demonstrated this commitment by providing full scholarships to more than 400 emerging product managers and builders, giving them access to industry experts, practical training, coaching and opportunities to connect with established players in the ecosystem.
The growing importance of product development to corporate competitiveness was also reflected in the continued support of Paga and Interswitch, which backed the conference for the third consecutive year.
The conference brought together senior representatives of the Mastercard Foundation, Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Lagos Business School and other institutional stakeholders, reinforcing the need for closer collaboration between policy, digital infrastructure, talent development and economic opportunity.
At the executive level, the closed-door CPO and C-Suite Summit, led by Christian Idiodi of Silicon Valley Product Group, brought together senior executives from organisations including Nedbank, Absa, Access Bank, Stanbic IBTC, MTN and Paga.
The discussions focused on a growing challenge facing businesses: how to move beyond building more features and instead invest in products that produce measurable business outcomes.
Participants examined how disciplined product strategy could help enterprises reduce wasted research and development spending, validate ideas before committing major resources and improve coordination between business, technology and product teams.
More than 100 founders also participated in the conference, gaining access to practical sessions on product-market fit, venture building and scaling businesses in difficult economic environments.
Among the experts were Chidi Afulezi, founder of ORÍKÌ, and the founder of GoPaddi, who shared experiences on building and scaling ventures.
The practical orientation extended to the product managers’ sessions, where experts including Roger Norton, Petra Willie, Annu Augustine Abiola Laseinde and Nkem Nweke worked with professionals from organisations including Visa, Moniepoint, Accion Microfinance and FirstBank.
A Canva workshop further demonstrated how artificial intelligence can shorten the product development cycle, as participants used Canva’s AI capabilities to create prototypes, test ideas and validate concepts before writing code.
For startups and established businesses alike, the message was clear: testing an idea before investing heavily in its development can reduce risk and make innovation more efficient.
The Foundation is now taking the conversation beyond the conference.
IAF has announced plans for the 2027 edition of the Inspire Africa Conference to extend its footprint across four major African technology hubs — Lagos, Cape Town, Nairobi and Casablanca.
The expansion signals an ambition to create a continent-wide pipeline connecting product builders, enterprises, technology companies, investors and institutions.
For the African technology ecosystem, the emerging challenge is no longer simply how to produce more people who understand technology, but how to equip them to build products that Africans and the global market are willing to use and pay for.
That is the space Innovate Africa Foundation says it is positioning the Inspire Africa Conference to occupy.
