Dicentrarchus labrax is properly called the European seabass in English (Letters, 20 October). Or sea bass; either is fine. In the US, the fish is most commonly referenced as branzino, although I prefer the more exciting French name loup de mer (literal translation “wolf of the sea”), all flashing teeth and the small thrill of danger. Good fishing to all.

Your report (Public support for founding principles of NHS is falling across UK population, 20 October) can be summed up in one sentence. Generally, the majority of people want an NHS that is free at the point of need, but very few want to pay for it.

Does the impulsive destruction of a “priceless” historic globe by US “war department” staff simply echo their actions in the outside world (Pete Hegseth’s staff break priceless historic globe he requested for office, 22 October)?

Thanks for the article with all the photographs of the places where one isn’t allowed to photograph (‘No influencers’: the hotels, restaurants and beauty spots restricting photoshoots, 19 October).

I was given an Addis broom and brush set as a wedding present in 1961, 11 years earlier than Stella Sadler (Letters 19 October). Sixty-five years later the broom and I are still going strong.
