Elevators have a ton of failsafes, I don't think 10% more gravity would break an elevator that wasn't already over capacity. It might suddenly be over capacity, but it wouldn't fall.

Surely, elevators have higher margin of safety than 10%. With a factor of safety of 5, they should withstand loads that are five times greater than the maximum expected load.

Up-to-date elevators wouldn't crash. They were designed to hold the weight limit several times.

Elevators won't be falling left and right. They're all built with 8x level of safety, meaning the construction and materials could withstand 8 times their rated load.

This is why Zod and the Kryptonians using the World Engine to increase Earths gravity would have been absolutely apocalyptic.

An elevator won't fall because of being 10% overweight. Mechanically they usually can lift 12 to 16 times the written max weight, but for safety reasons it just won't move anymore at 1,1 times the max weight.

bridges collapsing because of an extra 10% sounds unlikely to me, there probably is quite a big safety factor included in the design

Elevators should be perfectly fine, if their factor safety was that low they would fail all the time just from general usage, like a too many people squeezing on the elevator exceeding the weight limit. They should be able to handle a couple times their maximum rating

"full elevators" aren't 10% away from snapping. They are engineered for tolerances of more than 2x
