They unfortunately had to leave the guy with the misfiring defibrillator. It's a felony for emergency services to transport a medically competent patient against their will if they are not homicidal/suicidal. They are required to fully explain that seriousness of their condition and that it could lead to injury, illness, disability, death etc and have the patient repeat it back with full understanding but if they refuse multiple times and are transported against their will they can press criminal charges up to and including assault, battery, and kidnapping.
So I'm a paramedic and I totally understand the confusion with the defibrillator call. We unfortunately can only transport people against their wishes due to very few scenarios and that is if we feel that they are not in the correct mindset to be able to refuse care such as thoughts of self harm or harming others or cases where we can document that we believe they don't understand the ramifications of refusing care such as altered mental status. Unfortunately I've had a call recently where I've spent 2 hours on a call trying to get a patient to go to the hospital due to a high suspicion of sepsis, however we couldn't force her to go and two days later she was transported emergent in full blown sepsis. We don't have to agree with someone's choice not to go, but we have to respect it.
Kinda respect the man at the End for saying don't put the Dog down, he Just did His Job.
I always be grateful for the doctors and nurses at ER and especially ambulance workers. Unsung heroes that work all days and nights. Woke up one night with gallstone attack. With the most unimaginable pain ever, the feeling of the whole stomach and chest rotting from the inside. thought I had a heart attack and the ambulance came in just 5 minutes, sorted out the pain and transported me to the ER. Even if it was not a life threatening heart attack, they helped me and sorted out something that gave away so strong pain that it was hard to breath, were puking all the time and randomly passing out. Much respect to Healthcare workers! 👍
I suffer from Mikhail-Encephalopathy. The only treatment is 2 hours of Doctor Mike per day. This video came in clutch.
I'm a recovering alcoholic/addict. I've been clean for a little over 6 years now. I've overdosed on heroin 6 times. Thanks to my amazing wife and my amazing family for helping me through it all. Also, a huge thank you to every single EMT, nurse, and doctor who literally saved my life. I would be dead right now if it weren't for all of them and Narcan.
Hey DR. Mike, I’m a paramedic in California. In regards to the patient that was left on scene by the fire crew it’s simply that we cannot force anyone to go. We can call the hospital for physician assistance to convince the patient but if the patient is adamant they do not want to go we cannot force them or it’s technically kidnapping. It sucks for situations like the one in the video but that’s where the law and healthcare come together and make things difficult. Great video!
I mean, yeah a dog is gunna bite you if you're attacking his person haha
New fear unlocked: getting stabbed by an umbrella
In my experience, It doesn’t help when you’re told by a doctor “it’s just anxiety.” In April, I was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath, and so I decided to go to urgent care. All of the tests came back fine, EKG and what have you, and so the doctor came back and said “it’s just anxiety/stress.” It didn’t help, and if anything, it just made me feel worse. I decided to go to a different urgent care center, and instead of just saying “it’s just anxiety” they told me, in detail, why they believed it wasn’t anything serious and I felt so much better afterwards.
3 years sober 🎉Narcan saved my life so many times! Praying for those still in addiction 🙏 thank u dr Mike! ❤
21:41 YES THANK YOU. I actually had a nurse tell me "you need to calm down" because my heart rate was high. I was calm, but I was there to get a freaking heart monitor BECAUSE my heart rate was high 😭
9:54 also the hospital bill.
Watching this while sitting in a hair salon getting my hair styled Thanks Dr Mike ❤
CRAZY refresh pull I thought I was dreaming
