The whole point is that it’s an iPhone
Its not like its overpriced compared to the competition so I dont get why its a big deal. Its a folding phone, just that alone makes it not for everyone
I’m watching this on my duo. This thing rocks
So...if it wasn't called an iPhone you'd be ok with $2000?
The mental gymnastics on full display here… wild.
i’m confused on people talking about the duos price tag like it’s any different than anything other foldable along side that the samsung galaxy fold is still named after the original galaxy and sold along side that how is the duo any different
I don’t understand. So your problem is with the categorization rather than the product?
Watching this on my 13 mini
I think he’s underestimating just how much people want a change and to condense their environment to do more.
This seems like a desperate attempt to be different and they are trying their hardest to not budge. It’s a first gen product that will of course come with hiccups, and most people spending the money understand this. Even then, this first gen product gets a lot of the hardware and software better than the competition who’s been doing it for years. Haters going to hate 😉
Watching this on my duo it’s awesome
David’s bit is just shout out the price multiple times lol😂
I feel like the ball was dropped massively by not getting to a point where they had figured out how to include the telephoto lens. That would have made it really easy for let’s say people on iPhone 17 Pro to maybe consider an update after just a year rather than a 2 year cycle as many people do…to people with a 17 Pro they will see the 18 Pro and think “it’s not a difference maker, I can stick with mine until the end of my contract” or whatever but dangle something new in front of them and be like “here’s a completely new phone that’s nothing like your current phone, and it’s got the bonus of no compromising on the cameras” I think that’s a big win. Not that it’s had problems shifting them given the pre-orders but still I think long term the novelty will wear off with some people and they’ll miss those 3 cameras
Absolutely loving my duo
If it wasn’t called iPhone, this guy would come out with a pitchfork saying “why isn’t it called iPhone? It’s so obvious what it is!”
What headphones are they wearing?
Samsungs first foldable was 2k in 2019 and borderline unusable
Okay, I think there are some interesting things here. First of all, $2000 is just not as much as you think it is. Yeah, it’s a lot of money. Don’t get me wrong. But people just don’t have particularly hard financial limits when buying these pro iPhones anyway. You’ve already sort of made a choice not to buy a cheap phone, whether a cheaper phone from Apple like the 17, or a cheaper phone from another company where you can get some really good deals. Secondly, I really do think that the iPhone name is important here. I can agree that maybe that doesn’t leave as much room for normal first generation quirks, but it also does seem like most people have agreed that it’s not actually particularly quirky and that the biggest issue is third-party app support, which seems to be rapidly improving. By the time most people who want these phones actually have them, most apps will probably have been updated that people use daily, like even now many of them are, and depending on your use case, most possibly already are updated. Thirdly, you mentioned that they are trying to sell it to people who are just buying an iPhone. But I think the $2000 price kind of means that it’s hard to just buy it. Like at some point we can’t protect people from their ignorance if they sort of just accidentally fumble into buying the iPhone duo, right As for your review, I think it was great. I really didn’t mind the way you handled it. You were one of the few reviewers who actually mentioned the poor third-party app optimization in the context of something that will probably get fixed rather than just sort of acting like it was a damning issue for the duo. And yeah, of course, the second and 3rd generation will be better and I’m expecting that those iterations will probably make it a much better phone in general, but I do also think at least for myself it’s about the novelty and sort of the new form factor of it all, and I think that’s going to be very big. I suspect that the next generation duo won’t necessarily do that well, because I think most people who want the duo will have gotten it by that moment. Honestly, though I know this isn’t the plan, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple just didn’t release a duo 2 next year, and they released a duo 2 a few years later. Doing it every other year would honestly kind of make sense
I've used a Duo and while the overall design is admittedly solid the nano screen texture has some trade off. Hides the minimal crease exceptionally well but it reminds me of older laptop screens. A flatness to the GUI that just dulls the experience.
Samsung’s folds were literally the same price. There are so many iPhones to choose from now. The normal 17 from last year is an incredible value and I’m sure you can find many deals on them. The Duo is extremely niche product.
