If your ulcer is caused by a bacteria instead of stress, that means you need an anti-bacterial drug to treat it, right? Well, there's a lot of research supporting the simple fix of cabbage juice, thanks to it's secret ingredient: vitamin U.

For some reason, clinical trials never seem to get a lot of funding when they propose to study potential medicines that I could grow in my back yard for under $10.
The more I learn, the more I find that vegetables are amazing and we simply don’t usually eat enough of them.
I'm sure cabbage juice will become the standard of care once Big Cabbage funds more studies.
If this title were on any other channel I'd ignore it as false click bait, but since it's Scishow, I'm listening...
My cabbages! 😱
I had terrible gastritis a couple of years ago, no medicine was working, or it would just throw my stomach acid out of whack I felt like. I was desperate to try anything to stop the burning pain which was causing me to not be able to sleep through the night for weeks, I was eating only soft foods, it was just terrible. I finally came across someone’s story on Reddit about cabbage juicing (I am not usually the type to try randomly stuff on the internet) but no kidding it only took two days of juicing about a cups worth in the morning and the pain was gone and never came back. Thank you to whoever posted that, I am forever grateful!
My cabbages!.. Are actually healing people? I'm a health bender then! (And also make people into wind benders, if you get what I mean)
1:02 hospital, bland food, bed rest… AND SMOKING…
As a student (45 years ago), I suffered from a stomach ulcer for years. My diet consisted of a bottle of magnesium hydroxide that tasted like wet blackboard chalk with a hint of mint. One day, I developed back pain while laid up in bed with the flu. The doctor suspected a kidney issue and prescribed antibiotics. It turned out there was nothing wrong with my kidneys, but for the first time in years, I was able to eat proper food.
There are two things I don't like about the script for this episode. The first one is the overemphasis on H. pylori as the cause for ulcers. At the end of the day in medical terms ulcer just means the topmost area of the tissue is gone. And that can be caused by a lot of things. H. pylori is famous because it is directly correlated to ulcers in a way no one thought it was at the time, but that doesn't mean it is the only way to get an ulcer. They briefly touched upon it when they mentioned aspirin, but it was blink and you miss it. The second and the most damning one is how they completely dismissed stress as a cause for ulcers. There is a very clearly established physiopathological pathway by which stress creates ulcers and it is in fact one of the main complications you need to account for in hospitalized patients. More often than not people are given drugs exclusively to prevent peptic ulcer formation when admitted to the hospital because of how clear the connection is.
Interesting. I remember that when I didn't have the habit of eating cabbage, both my stomach and intestinal systems didn't function so well. However, after I started eating healthier, I rarely experience any stomach or intestinal discomfort anymore. These days I can't live without my cabbage, fruits, and other vegetables like spinach.
HELLO COLE SLAW!!!!
My dad had constant ulcer pain and popped antiacid like candy. It wasn't great.
my cabbages!
cabbages, potatoes and mushrooms will save us all
This is a crazy thing to read as someone with ulcerative colitis for whom cabbage is the absolute most deadly food I can think of 😂😂
In my country (Germany) they invented a treatment where you had to roll on a hard floor, onto your back, stomach, and both sides to distribute the Targesin all over the lining of your stomach. It was called Rollkur (rolling cure)
dang i wish i'd known this when my ulcer was at its worst, sending me to the hospital with non-stop vomiting and severe esophageal spasms. Def keeping this in mind in case another one pops up!!! Thanks scishow
The more relevant research might be whether it can affect stomach cancers now widely believed to be started by H. pylori infection
Cabbages are naturally prone to pests and in our district the farmers used to put so much pesticides to keep a profitable stock that we always ate the cabbage well washes, thoroughly boiled and drained to reduce the volume of pesticides. A popular stereotype there was that cabbages and cauliflower are the cause of cancer. My aversion to cabbages began to fade after I moved to the cities and the coleslaw salad tastes damm tasty.
