Toronto voters head to the polls Monday as Mayor Olivia Chow faces a competitive challenge from city councillor Brad Bradford.
Affordability, traffic congestion, property taxes and public safety are among the issues shaping the race.
University of Toronto professor emeritus Nelson Wiseman discusses the candidates’ promises and why Bradford’s campaign has surprised him.
He also examines how name recognition, incumbency and voter turnout could influence the outcome.

Brad for mayor Toronto. Let’s turn this sinking ship around!!!
Let the unseating begin
No more Olivia Chow means no more destruction. VOTE BRAD BRADFORD.
what a gotham city toronto has become. anyways, vote for the lifestyle my guys. vote for yourself, not a politician, not a brand. Vote for regular Canadians
Brad will be next Mayor I wish.
Olivia chow must go. Godspeed !
HOME OWNERS BEWARE : Bradford’s property tax freeze and fee cuts may provide short-term relief but relies on increasing debts/deficit. It would result in massive interest expenses, ultimately lead to steeper tax hikes, service cuts, or higher utility rates down the road. Dont fret: Chow's solution on income-tested rebates on property tax, luxury taxes, costs uploading to provincial and federal government etc. helps reduce financial burdens on the city and shield vulnerable primary homeowners without starving vital public infrastructure and services for low-income workers that businesses need.
Holy smokes if there is any actual sanity left in Toronto, they will vote ciao out😊
Yes. Hands down. We NEED more police. We need to fund more police. My daughters ride the TTC and the HORROR stories they have been subjected to over the last few years. Not GOOD!!! We should feel safe having our children ride the TTC to school and not be afraid. Hands Down. We need more Police. Period. I will pay more taxes to have more Police. We, and our children, need to be safe riding the TTC to get to school.
Chow got the province to upload the costs of highways in the city, and has practical, immediate ideas to keep people housed. As for Bradford if he were running for councilor again he would lose because he has a history of flip-flops. He wants to hire lots of police and cut taxes. How do we pay for it? How many libraries, pools and rinks will he close?
Hopefully for the sake of what is left of Toronto.
Olivia Chow has driven this city into the ground. Quality of life is awful. Anyone but Chow.
He really should be able to she has allowed the crime to run rampant
Oh, wonderful! Toronto's MUNICIPAL election is apparently important to every Canadian, no matter where they live, while British Columbia, Canada's THIRD-largest province, just voted to elect an entire provincial government yesterday. That's 5.7 million Canadians west of the Rockies, in case your national newsroom has misplaced its atlas. Perhaps Canada's corporate media could explain why Toronto City Hall automatically qualifies as a national concern while British Columbia's political importance apparently requires constant reminders.
Yup!!’n
Bradford , i see you a mayor of Toronto !
She has the power of the incumbency and name recognition and yet she is tied in the polls.
preauthorized questions with prehearsded answers, this man who ver he is didn't offer anything insightful other then Chow being destiney to win just because she's the incumbent, can u say taxes, taxes, taxes at 20 percent.
Early results are already available interviewing voters in line....Chow's spending spree is over.
This was a great interview.
